Plan the day before and after as light
A 7:40 or 7:50am meeting time means an early alarm, and an early-evening return from Hiroshima means the trip's last hour or two is spent on a train rather than out in the city. Most travellers find it easier to keep the evening before and the morning after this day trip deliberately unplanned rather than stacking it against another early start.
Osaka on the other days

Two cities, one long day between them
